Anti-Spam Question:

In this courtroom sketch, Hon. Gloria M. Dabiri listens as plaintiff's attorney Thomas M. Oliva, of the law firm Wingate, Russotti, Shapiro & Halperin, LLP, delivers a statement to the jury last week in Kings County Supreme Court Civil Term.

The NY wrongful death action Yvonne Thurston v. Interfaith Medical Center alleges that Thurstons's husband, Alan Bittleman, died as a result of Interfaith Medical Center's failure to provide adequate medical care. Trial is expected to continue today.

In July 2002, Bittleman, who had renal disease and was a dialysis patient, arrived at Interfaith Medical Center in Bedford-Stuyvesant for surgery. There, Bittleman remained in the surgical waiting area while the medical staff awaited test results to come back. However, during that time, Bittleman left the waiting area and walked elsewhere.

When the test results came back and showed Bittleman had high potassium levels, which needed to be addressed, Interfaith staff could not immediately locate him. A search was conducted, and ultimately Bittleman was found collapsed. He died and could not be revived.

5 Ken was my relentless advocate every step of the way

I was facing a life with a marked physical disability and unable to work, but things changed for the better the moment I called Ken Halperin. Ken was my relentless advocate every step of the way with his cool and calm personality. I can't thank Ken and everyone from Wingate Russotti and Shapiro enough because without all their hard work this settlement would have never gotten done.
