THOMAS M. OLIVA
Tom graduated from the Leonard Davis Center for the Performing Arts at City College in 1980. After a brief career in the performing arts Tom enrolled and graduated from the Hofstra University School of Law in 1988. Tom took first place in the Tom C. Clark Moot Court Appellate Competition in 1988 and was selected to represent the Hofstra School of Law in the National Moot Court Competition that year. While attending Hofstra Law School Tom helped in founding the Latino Law Student Association and served as Treasurer for the Black American Law Students Association in his second year.
Upon graduation Tom went to work for the Bronx County District Attorneys Office spending the majority of his tenure there in the Sex Crimes / Domestic Violence Bureau. Tom amassed an impressive resume there in his number of trial convictions prosecuting difficult case involving sexually abused adults and children and cases involving Catholic Schools. It was there that Tom developed a particular compassion for dealing with the difficulties encountered by victims and their families.After his tenure at the Bronx District Attorney's Office Tom went on to practice in the field of medical malpractice defending doctors and hospitals as a partner at a prominent New York defense firm for fifteen years. Tom has also lectured and taught other attorneys on numerous occasions at the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, New York State Bar Association, Corporation Counsel for the City of NewYork and Hofstra University School of Law. He is a member of the NewYork State Bar Association, Hispanic National Bar Association, Puerto Rican Lawyers Association, Queens County Bar Association and the Latino Lawyers of Queens.
