Trial Counsel Robert J. Bellinson recently won a hotly contested jury trial against the City of New York for its negligence in failing to place a seat belt on our client, who was under arrest in a police car and being taken to Court for her arraignment when the police car collided with another vehicle in Queens. Our client, who was 19-years-old, rear-cuffed and had never before been arrested, was placed into the back seat of a police car and being taken to Court for her arraignment. On the way the police officer was driving fast and not paying attention to traffic when another car cut in front of them; the collision totaled the police car and caused our client's spinal injuries. Before the start of Jury Selection defendant raised their offer from 0 to $7,500. During the trial, and after an adverse liability verdict, defendant settled for $125,000.
