Plaintiff, a 67 year-old woman on disability because of a severe back condition, developed leg pain six months after a back operation (laminectomy). Her internist misdiagnosed the condition as a neurologic problem rather than vascular disease. She left the country, against doctor's advice, and developed an acute vascular occlusion of her leg, which had to be amputated.
